About The Math Collective
Children can and want to learn.
Every student is a capable mathematician.
How do we create opportunities for educators to harness student engagement in an effort to maximize their academic potential? The answer is collaboration.
The Math Collective emerged from a vision of providing spaces for educators and school leaders to collaboratively deepen their understanding of effective, responsive math practices.
This work includes:
- Exploring growth mindset and the importance of positive math identities, for teachers and students alike.
- Finding ways to connect math concepts to everyday, culturally relevant problem-solving contexts that reflect the experiences of their students.
- Engaging in equity-focused practices that provide points of entry and value the voices of all members of the community, particularly those belonging to historically marginalized populations.
Together we can reveal the true potential of our mathematicians.
About Kathy Minas

I am an educator with over 10 years of experience teaching general and special education in New York City and Los Angeles public schools.
As a math consultant, I collaborate with educators and school leaders to design and implement responsive, student-centered math instruction. Together, we explore math concepts and tasks, focusing on opportunities to elicit student thinking and strategies. We examine ways to differentiate instruction in order to promote the participation of all learners.
